Collaboration

This piece is a collaboration between Guandanarian (incredible pixel artist) and Drew Brereton.

Guandanarian created the intricate circuit board composition - the base pixel art showing a complex technological artifact. Drew contributed entropy-locked micro-animations that Guan integrated into the board.

Author's Notes

This piece was really fun and challenging. Instead of making a single piece that loops with chaotic noise and Dead God palettes, I ended up making a larger number of "micro-pieces" for Guan to fit into the board he was constructing.

I used the aebrer_engine to create these small looping gifs on the spot - most of them only existed transiently during the creation process. Each one had to work within the constraints of Guan's overall composition while maintaining the corrupted, glitching aesthetic of the vestiges series.

The result is this breathing circuit board - Guan's meticulous pixel work providing the structure, with my chaotic animations creating points of instability and movement throughout the system.

Technical Notes

The Collaboration Process

Mixed media piece combining two approaches:

  • Guandanarian's work: Pixel art circuit board composition created in Aseprite
  • Drew's work: Multiple small entropy-locked looping gifs generated with Pico-8 using the aebrer_engine
  • Integration: Drew's animated micro-pieces placed strategically throughout Guan's board composition

The Vestiges Aesthetic

Part of the vestiges_of_the_dead_god series - remnants of technological artifacts exhibiting corruption and degradation. The debug log format and system status messages reinforce the fiction of monitoring a failing containment system.

The black, white, and pink/red palette creates stark contrast - clinical monitoring systems overlaid with corruption artifacts.

Format

Medium: Animated GIF
