skyscapers
Statement
skyscapers is a showcase of entropy locking. There are three different modes of entropy locking possible for a given piece:
- Random Chance - A random number determines if the seed is reset
- Consistent by Frame Count - The seed is reset every five frames
- None - No entropy locking is used
This allows one to appreciate the way entropy locking creates emergent patterns out of highly random generators, and how subtle differences in how you lock the entropy can have large consequences for the art.
I called this piece skyscrapers because I often see two (related) things when viewing it. One is skyscrapers close up from the side, showing the condo balconies and windows, with vines and plants maybe hanging down at times. The other is a city from far above, as if from a satellite image, but the city, once modern, is now ancient and abandoned. Perhaps humanity is extinct in this world.
The intended viewing is in fullscreen mode. Just set it up and leave it running, it should never repeat a sequence. Once it's fullscreen press ctrl+r to get it to refresh and scale for the display.
Controls
- F11 - Toggle fullscreen mode
- S - Save PNG of the current image
- 1-8 - Set pixel density and re-render (default 5, higher = higher resolution)
